On our journey, we want to show you a totally different country and its beauty, but also raise awareness for its problems and explore possible solutions, together with locals.
There also should be a „Slama-Grad“-like-feeling of the whole camp, with workshops, discussions, open spaces, and just having a good time!

The price of this trip will mainly be covered by the Italian region of Trentino-South Tyrol, but we ask you for a personal contribution of 50€.

Travel will be in private cars from Osijek

We'll be camping (on a beautiful spot, next to a mountain stream), so please bring your camping equipment

please bring strong hiking shoes, at best ones going over the ancle

temperature: it is supposed to be warm and sunny there (although it's a 1000m)

23.7. - you'll leave Osijek in private cars and go to Austria (Carinthia/Kärnten), where you will be staying overnight with Richard Schwarz, a friend of us. He lives near Liebenfels, on the countryside where he bought a small farm and is transforming it into a place for a small community. He also has an eco-garden and chicken. The place is surrounded by a romantic forest.

24.7. - departure from Richard's place in the morning (about 10), journey West, through Carinthia, along the Drava/Drau and reach East Tyrol (Lienz). You cross national borders in the Pustertal, into South Tyrol (Italy) and visit the Drava source (near Toblach). You pass Franzensfeste and Brixen and will arrive at Bozen (the capital of South Tyrol) at about 15:00. There you'll get a historical tour through the city. Evening: Arrival at Glurns (Vinschgau), putting up of tents, get to know the place a bit etc.

25.7. - Short walk around the area (probably in the valley, no mountaineering!), maybe in the evening: Meeting up with local people and cooking together, cultural exchange, getting to know each other. Short trip around the fire station, introduction to South Tyrolean NGO-/volunteers's system

3.8. - „Workshop-Day“ (similar to Slama Grad), everyone can offer workshops and take part in them, workshops are also open to the South Tyrolean public; in the evening (from about 18:00 – 21:00) – artistic event – literary reading and vernissage with artists from North- and South Tyrol, Carinthia and Croatia; afterwards: time for mingling, talking, networking, cultural exchange.....having a good time

4.8. - „Inspiration Day“ in Glurns, writing workshop(s) with the authors (and other workshops possible), get inspired by the place; time for packing, talking to people, networking, everything you would like to do before departure; last evening, party

5.8. - Departure from Glurns in the morning, in the direction of Carinthia (Austria), overnight stay with Slovenian minority there

6.8. - Day programme with Slovenia minority, visiting the partisan museum

7.8. - Journey back to Osijek, arrival in Osijek

* On these days, the following activities will/ can take place:

Ecolocial workshop with a member of „Adam und Epfl“, a local NGO that criticises monocultural farming of apples in the region (includin spraying of a huge amount of pesticides), and rather favour a return to farming grain there (Vinschgau valley used to be the breadbasket of the whole state of Tyrol); visit of a local cheese dairy
Walking the „Stundenweg“ from Glurns to nearby Switzerland (you get a good overview over the area from there, not too steep, no climbing)
Hiking in the mountains (not too difficult), to a place from where you have a good view on the Ortler (almost 4000m high)
Visit of a strawbale-A-energy house nearby
visit of an eco-farmer in Glurns
visit of an eco-garden in Mals (nearby village)
a tour of Glurns
visit of nearby sights and holy places (e.g. medieval churches, Schalensteine...)
a day-trip to Meran (the second-largest town in South Tyrol, after Bozen), tour of the city, free time, plus a short visit to the nearby village of Schenna, a bad example of mass tourism
history workshop about Tyrol/ South Tyrol and the Vinschgau area
visit of the local Heimatmuseum, to see how people live there in the past
another evening of cultural exchange when you'll cook Croatian food (already fixed)
watching films about local problems, most importantly mass tourism and the distruction of mountain ecosystem (Film „Peak“), maybe also „Grenzland“ (a film that explores the ethnic situation in South Tyrol in a critical way), maybe also „We feed the world“ (an Austrian documentary about the food industry)
workshop about new mountain refuges – some crazy architects and the local government want to place modern, absolutely ugly (science-fiction-style) and useless new hikers' huts into the mountains – locals and tourists reject them, they prefer buildings that fit into the landscape and are made with materials available in the mountains (this topic has become a huge controvery in South Tyrol)
workshop about hydropower – using waterpower is actually a clean way of producing energy, but then the sensitive mountain environment suffers nonetheless. Streams disappear, massive concrete structures are built, … Combined with a tour along the tradtional „Waalwege“ (paths along traditional watering/irrigation channels), maybe also together with South Tyroleans who explain the stuff
workshop about the problem of transit across the Alps (air pollution, noise, too much traffic...)
